Meet Alissa, the Maker behind To The Birds
Long Beach resident, Alissa Cannon caught our eye with her well-constructed, and frankly, adorable masks early on in the pandemic. We liked them so much we asked her if she would like to stock her other creations with MADE as well, and we are happy she said yes!

How’d you get your start?
I have been drawing, painting, and constructing garments since my youth. My Barbie doll’s declared occupation was artist and clothing designer, haha. I have, furthermore, always been fascinated by old timey literature, art, and fashion. My creations are generally inspired by past eras. I do hold a fashion design degree, and have experience working within the industry.
“Platforms such as Etsy, (and MADE!) as well social media have certainly made it easier for artists, and smaller operations, like mine to bring work, and products to the market.”
Describe your day at home or in your workspace?
The quarantine has provided the opportunity to spend more time in my studio. My aim is typically 6-8 hours, when I'm not working. This may include all of the possibilities; fulfilling orders, creating new pieces, photos and listings, updating current listings.
If you could move to any other place in this or any universe where would you go?
"Well, I am currently a citizen of Asgardia (Space Nation). If I recall correctly, the objective is The Moon 2043. Haha. Long Beach is decidedly my home, at this time, however. This charming and unique city has utterly conquered my heart."
Describe your perfect day out and about locally.
Retro Row is my neighborhood. I do so love a leisurely stroll to 4th St., poking around the shops and eateries, warmly greeting friends, and random dogs. Enjoying coffee and people watching at Portfolio, or wine and live music at 4th Street Vine (R.I.P). Or, a jaunt to the beach, if I'm feeling ambitious.
