How’d you get your start?
It was a dream, really. I woke up one morning with letters and words dancing in my mind. It was an alphabet soup of sorts. I knew immediately it was something special; that it was going to be a book. Within minutes, I was coming up with titles and imagining myself as an author inspiring and motivating other people.I started by writing. Every day I would write something. For instance, the first word in my book is A for accept. I thought of all the ways that we humans have trouble accepting, made suggestions on how we could, and went from there until I arrived at Z!

Has rejection ever affected your creative process?
Rejection has never interfered in my life. It’s part of the game. I take it in stride and never take it personally.
When I was writing I’d spend several hours per day just writing; not worrying whether it was good or not, for I knew there would be many drafts, many edits.
Describe your perfect day out and about locally.
Favorite local eateries and drinkeries?
I wouldn’t mind hitting book stores, as those are my favorite places to shop. I do love art, especially anything with color. I’m an artist and in love with the mural by Kamea Hadar on 60 E. 4th Street, Long Beach. When I did go out (pre-Covid days), perfection would be a movie and dinner at one of my favorite Vegan restaurants, Ahimsa, Seabirds, or Au Lac.

"I love helping people, and I get to do it from home, which is an added perk."
Describe your day at home or in your workspace?
What have you been reading lately?
I work from home. I’m not currently working on a book, but I do write a monthly article for Lifehack.org. I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist on Talkspace—an online therapy platform.
I am very organized; can’t stand clutter. My creative juices are constantly flowing. I read voraciously: Fiction, non-fiction, self-help, etc. My favorite books are The Untethered Soul, by Michael J. Singer, and Irritating the Ones You Love, by Jeff Auerbach, Ph.D.
I am currently on TikTok providing advice in 59 seconds or less. My handle is @exprezztherapy.
I love to paint with acrylics, mostly portraits. A love my father passed on to me before he died.

“If I could move anywhere else, it would be to Rockport, MA, with California’s weather. This is fictional, right. So, yeah, I’d move to “sunny” Rockport, and live by the ocean across from Thacher’s Island.”

What holds more value for you: creativity or knowledge?
This is a tough question. How to choose? I am constantly learning, looking for ways to expand who I am, as a therapist and a human being. But I am also creative. I love music…I play the violin, the viola, and the piano. Those are also ways in which I express myself; ways in which I can be playful, expressive, and fulfilling my soul simultaneously.
While formal training is wonderful, I also believe it’s not necessary for success. Success can define itself in many ways. And creativity is one of those ways.
