It all started when ... founder and owner Rashad Captan found himself rejecting his truck for a bicycle after returning from five years in Hannover, Germany. In need of something to haul books and papers from graduate school, he went the affordable route and strapped a milk crate to the back of his bike. Following the theft of that bike, Rashad mounted an old 7-Up crate onto his ‘new’ 1950s era bike and off he went. Soon after, people began stopping him and asking “Where can I get a box like that?”
Slowly he began to repurpose old wine crates for friends and family. Demand quickly outpaced supply and Bike Local was born.
Since then, Rashad has mastered the lost art of wood burning in turn creating highly stylish boxes. He continues to make homemade wood stains out of natural products further adding to the uniqueness of each box. Additionally, he taught himself how to silk screen onto boxes, providing an unparalleled range of opportunities.
Bike Local engages the local community by offering bike valet services at events, advocating at civic meetings, organizing bike rides, participating in bike recycle programs, and volunteering."
